College Counter is set to launch their first tournament on October 25th as a part of their new College Counter Campus Circuit (C4) in partnership with Northwest Esports. This is the first tournament in what will become a monthly tournament series.

Northwest Esports, a North American CS2 tournament organizer based out of Seattle, Washington, will organize the event and stream. Founded in 2015, Northwest Esports’ main goal is to create opportunities for community competition and has worked or partnered with a number of organizations including Seattle Sounders, ESL, LANFest, Facebook, Psyonix and CSMG.
“It’s been really great working with the [College Counter] team so far,” says Northwest Esports owner and lead tournament organizer Jake “AnimateD” Greene.
Through the College Counter partnership, AnimateD hopes to “gain more momentum for the collegiate CS2 community, and eventually open up avenues to help more clubs get started.”
For College Counter co-founder and community manager Anthony “sensh1” Solt, the launching of C4 as a “grassroots initiative” will only build the college Counter-Strike community up and encourage competition.
This new partnership will “bridge the gap” between the Collegiate Counter-Strike community and high-quality professional level competition, Solt says.
The results from these events will impact attending teams’ College Counter rankings and receive exclusive coverage by the site. This tournament was invite-only for the first event but future C4 events will be by sign-up. The tournament currently sits at a prize pool of $425 ($300 for first place and $125 for second place).
The inaugural four teams in the first tournament are as follows:
#21 Durham College
#7 Rochester Institute of Technology
Hayden “Kimmer-” Kim
What is Northwest esports and what is your main goal with the company? Northwest Esports is a community organization started in 2015, we emerged from a competitive CS community in the PNW going back to 2002. NWES goal was to enable more opportunity for community competition, primarily through LAN or in-person events. Since we started, we’ve worked or partnered with Seattle Sounders, ESL, LANFest, Facebook, CSMG, Psyonix, Bluehole (now Krafton), and a ton of other awesome organizations, companies, or developers. How has it been working with the College Counter team and what do you hope to gain from this partnership? It’s been really great working with the team so far- after being invited to the Discord via the recent NECC LAN tournament I TO’d, I instantly became a fan of the community. Getting to know members of the collegiate community through that event IRL, and via College Counter website and discord, has given me a unique perspective and “TO’s” viewpoint of collegiate Counter-Strike. Through this partnership we hope to gain more momentum for the collegiate CS2 community, and eventually open up avenues to help more clubs get started. With this being the first of hopefully many future C4 events, what would a successful first event mean to you as you reflect on the NA CS scene in general? We’re super excited to get these monthly recurring events going! Since NECC, we’ve hosted an online event and oversaw brackets at PlayNACS- with continued stellar feedback from competitors in the College Counter community and NA CS LAN community. As we reflect on the NA scene in general, a successful first event would signal the desire for the collegiate community to continue growing, which will have downstream benefits for the NA CS scene overall. Some of the current College Counter community members are talented and aspiring professionals, we intend on providing them as much opportunity to compete as possible, in advance of representing NA on the worlds stage.
